Julian, California

An unincorporated community in San Diego County, Julian had a population of 1,621 as of the census completed in 2000. Julian has an attractive setting which brings tourists and people that love the outdoors into the community and it also is known for its antique shops. Above all else though, Julian is renowned for its apple crop which produces pies and ciders which have been popular in the area for years. Julian can be reached via State Route 78, State Route 76, and State Route 79.

Those that reside in Julian typically use the East County Regional Center in El Cajon for their family law needs. This building is located at 250 East Main St. Their business office is located on the west side of the building on the first floor and besides hearing family law and juvenile dependency cases, also hears civil and criminal cases.

Many residents of Julian live in a rural community. As such, in the case of parents who split up, whether married such as in a legal separation or divorce or in a paternity case when unmarried, the geographical location of each parent will be a consideration for the parenting plan. If both parents stay in Julian, then this may not be a large issue however, if one of the parents is moving into the downtown San Diego area [for example] this will create an issue since the children cannot go to school in both downtown San Diego and Julian. As such, the child or children would live primarily with one parent during the week and the other parent would have time on the weekends, holiday and [potentially] all summer. The Court takes into consideration, in parenting plan orders, the best interests of the children which include frequent and continuing contact, bonding and stability among others. If the children were going to school in Julian, continuing in school there would be a consideration rather than moving the school district. Also, friends and other factors [such as extracurricular activities] may play a large role in any court decision. Of course, the parents can agree among themselves and Judges have ordered children to transfer schools in past cases.
