As the court schedule changes all the time, please make sure to verify. Many people take time off of work and travel to the court house only to find they are too early or too late or the court house is closed. The website address for the San Diego Superior Court is www.sdcourt.ca.gov and you can verify the below as necessary. As of the writing of this guide in September of 2009, the below information is correct.
It is important to check dates and hours since the Court may close on some holidays which are observed only by the federal government, others only by the state government and some which are observed by both. The hours that the facilities open are as follows: Vista, Chula Vista, El Cajon open at 7:30am and Family Court on 6th and Madge Bradley open at 8:00am. The hours that the business office is open is different. For the two court houses in San Diego downtown, El Cajon, Vista and Chula Vista, the hours are from 8:30am to 3:30pm. This is when pleadings can be filed.
The holidays may fall on different days of the week each year but they are listed as follows and there is no notice that these will change: New year’s Day; Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday; Lincoln’s Birthday; Presidents’ Day; Cesar Chavez Day; Memorial Day; Independence Day; Labor Day; Columbus Day; Veterans’ Day; Thanksgiving Day; Day after Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Currently, starting September 16, 2009, the Courts’ will also be closed every third Wednesday of the month through June 17, 2010 and a decision will be made in January of 2010 whether to continue this closure for fiscal reasons.
